A message from the MST learning centre

Message from MST

In Term 1 and 2, a number of Year 7 students and a group of Year 8 Cook Island students participated in the MST intervention which involves the students’ accelerating in their mathematical learning. The students have been fully committed to their learning and developed a growth mindset in their approach in solving mathematical problems. In Term 3, several Year 7 groups will be selected for the MST intervention. This is a great opportunity for students to develop a positive mindset about mathematics and realise that mathematics is not only about numbers but the world around them.

Tips about how you can support your child in their mathematical learning around the home:

  • Play games to practice basic facts and place value. A great website for games ideas is http://nzmaths.co.nz/families
  • Discuss about patterns and geometry in Pasifika tattoos, tapas.
  • Getting the students to read an analogue clock to you. Students can read a digital clock but find it hard to read an analogue clock.
